wie kann ich denn kde als standard-wm einstellen?
durch einen misslungenen update-versuch zu kde 4.1 habe ich nun leider den icw-wm als standart-wm?

Ich weiss nicht, aber meine Glaskugel ist noch im Tiefschlaf. Läuft bei Dir KDE4 als Stand-Allon-WM oder hast Du KDE4 als zusätzliches wm neben KDE3 installiertt?

Demnach müsstetst Du eigentlich auch noch KDE3 als weitere Möglichkeit haben. Oder!
Falls dem so ist, folgender Ansatz:

Beim grafischen LogIn unter "Sitzungsart" kde3 als wm wählen. Du wirst auch noch gefragt, ob es Dein Standart-wm sein soll. Beim nächsten Systmstart sollte kde als Standart-wm wieder dabei sein.

also:
nach dem update auf kde 4.1 hatte ich beim nächsten neustart plötzlich lediglich den ice-wm-anmeldebildschirm vor der nase. ich kann dort keine sitzungsart einstellen - gar nichts. ich komme also nur zu ice-wm.

ich müsste jetzt eigentlich alle kde4.1-komponenten nachinstalliert haben, so dass kde 4.1 funktionieren sollte. kde 3.5 dürfte es nicht mehr geben - war ja ein "upgrade" mit smart.

es gibt doch sicherlich irgendeine datei, in der man festlegen kann, welcher wm standartmäßig gestartet wird? beim hochfahren heisst es normalerweise auch "starting kdm", oder?
nun heisst es bei mir "starting xwm".

Wenn ich mich nicht irre, kannst Di das im Yast unter "System" => "Konfiguration des Bootloaders" als "Bootoption" hinzufügen.

Oder das Ganze beim Booten als Bootoption eintippen und schauen ob das nützt bevor man die Systemdateien ändert!

Dem Link zur Vorgeschichte habe ich entnommen das der Kollege openSUSE 11.0 benutzt.

Der openSUSE-Korrekturfaktor:
  • Sollte die Umschreibung dafür werden, das openSUSE wieder einmal von einem Standart abweicht, ohne näher darauf hin zu weisen. Vielleicht ist diese Änderungen aber nur solange nötig, solange zwei KDE-Versionen parallel installiert sein können. Aber ich denke grundsätzlich ist die Variante von gropiuskalle für Linux die allgemein gültige Version, meine Variante kenne ich nur von openSUSE 11.0.
 
OT:

SuSE hält sich wesentlich enger an Standards (Unix Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, rpm-Standard, POSIX etc.) als viele andere Distributionen; dass das openSUSE-Team laufend Sonderwege beschreitet, ist schon lange nicht mehr der Fall, auch wenn es (wie bei jeder Distri) gewisse Eigenheiten immer gab.

Ich schau trotzdem mal, wie das bei mir nach dem upgrade auf die 11.0 aussieht. Ich habe hier derzeit neben KDE3 auch KDE4 (und etliche andere DEs & WMs) installiert, dennoch steht da nur "kde"...

Und weil es einer versehentlich offen gelassenen Klotür gleichkommt: es heißt "Standard", nicht "Standart". :fies:

bei mir hat sich die sache in wohlgefallen aufgelöst!

ich musste tatsächlich kde4-kdm nachinstallieren - das war bei meinem wilden upgraden wohl irgendwie unter den tisch gefallen.

danke jungs!

außerdem gelobe ich besserung:
ich werde zumindest den betreff meiner threads groß schreiben!
und "standard" natürlich richtig schreiben!
