1.) der Eintrag für dein Linux ist ok.

2.) der Eintrag für dein Windows sollte so aussehen:

wenn das zu bootende Windows auf /dev/sdd1 liegt (ich vermute es, weil Linux diese Partition als Windows/C einbindet - siehe in der fstab)
Editiere die menu.lst aber bitte nicht mit YaST, sondern als root mit einem Editor deiner Wahl.
In einer Shell mit VI oder so:
Alt+F2 -> kdesu kate /boot/grub/menu.lst -> root-PW eingeben -> File editieren

3.) installiere Grub in den MBR von /dev/sdd als root in einer Shell so:

. . . und Punkt 3 bringen keinerlei Veränderung.

Es wird brav Windows gebootet, wobei - wie ich eingangs schrieb - nur die Windows boot.ini auf sdd1 (WIN-C) sich befindet (sowie ein stillgelegtes WIN98SE), das eigentliche WindowsXP befindet sich auf sda10 (WIN-U).
Der MBR erscheint offenbar unverändert, mußte also auch nicht gefixt werden.
Linux-Boot (stage 1) scheint weiterhin nur von Diskette möglich (/dev/fd0).
Wie geht's weiter?

Nee, ganz offensichtlich nicht, denn wenn ich (wie eben geschehen) versuche, GRUB über YAST zu konfigurieren und in den MBR zu schreiben, ist der MBR sofort "zerschossen" und bietet nur die Meldung "GRUB", ohne daß irgendwas gebootet wird.

Ich kann jetzt erst mal nur Linux von der Diskette booten, ohne daß ich aus der Auwahl im Menü heraus Windows booten könnte.

Ich muß also erst mal den MBR fixen, damit ich an das ungeliebte Windows wieder herankomme. Aber dann bin ich immer noch da, wo ich anfangs war. . . , insgesamt etwas ratlos.

Du könntest es mal mit dem MBR einer anderen Platte versuchen ... evt. von der Linux-Platte /dev/sdb booten und den Bootloader darein schreiben lassen.
Oder hast du sowas schon versucht?

Sonst fällt mir dann auch nichts anderes mehr ein, außer den Bootloader zu wechseln und LILO zu versuchen.

Nee, aber jetzt wird's interessant, es gibt 'ne Art von Fortschritt:

Nachdem ich eben per XP-DVD den MBR gefixt habe, bekomme ich nicht mehr das boot.ini-Menü zu sehen, sondern das Stage2-Grub-Menü. Ich kann also zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben Linux von Platte booten. So weit so gut.
Dafür kann ich aber Windows aus diesem Menü nicht mehr booten, sondern bekomme eine Reboot-Schleife. Das sollte allerdings nur noch eine Einstellungssache sein, hoffe ich.
Können wir herausbekommen, welche Parameter ich wo setzen muß?

Die /etc/grub.conf sieht jetzt so aus:

Was könnte ich also beim Windows-title ändern müssen? Zur Erinnerung, mein XP liegt auf sda10, ist das dann hd2,6? Oder kann Windows nur von hd0,0 starten? Das müßte doch mit dem Chainloader gehen?

ich hab nur ein Dualboot zwischen Windows Vista Ult. und OpenSuSE 10.3 aber ich finde es hat sich massiv bewährt eine FAT32 Partition im System zu haben.

Eventuell inspiriert dich der Eintrag für Vista aus meiner menu.lst:

Zur Logik:
Windows Vista liegt bei mir auf der "ersten Festplatte" auf der "ersten Partition". Das hieße:

Gerät 0 Partition 0? was eben (hd0,0) ergäbe..

^ für den Satz bekomme ich normalerweise die korrekte Antwort.

und in der device.map ist eben die "(hd0)" --> "/dev/sda" das heißt dann, Grub springt wo ein?

Dazu müsste ich jetzt konkret wissen, wo genau liegt dein zu bootendes Windows und welche Platten waren zur Windows-Installation im Rechner?
Bitte sag es mir anhand der Ausgabe von "fdisk -l".

Hallo Revealed, inspirieren ist immer gut, besser als transpirieren. . . egal,

aus meiner device.map ergibt sich, daß Windows-C mit der boot.ini und dem MBR auf sdd1 = hd0 liegt, das benutzte WindowsXP Home jedoch auf Windows-U = sda10 = hd2,6 liegt. Jedenfalls hat XPs "fixmbr" erstaunlicherweise einen Linux-Boot gefixt, und nicht den Windows-Boot. Leider brauch' ich das Windows noch zum Arbeiten und kann nicht drauf verzichten, muß es also booten können. . . .
