OS 42.1 w. Plasma 5 vs OS 13.1 w. KDE 4

Dear community,
I am a happy user of OpenSuse 13.1 w. last version of KDE 4 ( nothing against 13.2). The point is more related with KDE 4 and Plasma 5.
Hint: In the current 13.1 machine works everything and I mean EVERYTHING !.
My interest on the OpenSuse Leap 42.1 was the implementation of the Plasma 5 more than all other changes.
Quick highlights:
1. No screensaver anymore. Except you install the xscreensaver! is this a solution for OS 42.1 ? https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/kde/2015-April/014545.html
2. To let auto software updates working, is necessary to install "apper" per hand after the installation ! than works it... more or less.
3. "Caffeine" as a screensaver stopper, can be installed but doesn't work. An issue related with point 1?
4. The systray shows a strange behavior: the kmix icon sometimes disappear. I use an HP printer, the icon seems to be find there but it doesn't work.
5. I am missing more widgets or the import of kde 4 ones to plasma 5. Examples yawp !
6. NO GO: for the "virtual desktops" it is not possible anymore to select different wallpapers and widgets and this Bug seems will be not fixed. ( see link: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343246). This argument is one to avoid to have OS 42.1 in a productive machine !

So, this are at this moment some observations comparing the solid KDE 4 with the current plasma 5.

About applications, and drivers and hardware comments in other Thema.
Grüße
J.-L.

Hallo.

We are talking of openSUSE Leap 42.1 -- i just give some examples of Tumbleweed also. Im running Leap on my Notebook. And i have Tumbleweed on my Desktop. Both running Plasma5:
1. No screensaver anymore. Except you install the xscreensaver! is this a solution for OS 42.1 ?
Can confirm this. Seems, this kcm module was not ported to this Plasma5 version until now. Or not included. A screensaver is also maybe considered a ancient relict necessary for old fashioned CRT Screens? This feature is also not included for me in current Tumbleweed snapshot. Im running Plasma 5.4.3 on Tumbleweed. So thats the tested latest bleeding edge version currently. (Today). Tomorrow theres probably already a newer. So have a look yourself ;)
2. To let auto software updates working...
It works fine now. There seems to have been a update for this after release. Working fine here, at least for me. I had reports of other users with some issues around that applet. Solved after an update for "polkit".
3. "Caffeine" as a screensaver...
I do not use this. Else i would give you a hint on this. But as you are more into this topic. Could it be in relation with missing restricted formats on your installation? Those can not be included on the DVD for legal reasons. Please see:
1. Information:
https://en.opensuse.org/Restricted_formats
2. Installation:
http://opensuse-guide.org/codecs.php
I guess this Information from fedora would be better provided for official site or the sandbox there. In this forum this will probably lead to nothing.
4. The systray shows a strange behavior: ...
These are partially known issues. I know theres a problem with hp tray as the support for xembed was initially dropped from plasma5. In meantime there seems to be something like a regression on this topic. So the support comes partially back already. One solution is to disable the HP tray. For other attempts with xembed-sni-proxy can be searched from mailinglists. About KMIX. You will want to use the Plasma mixer in future instead of kmix. See settings of systemtray about hide / show.
Here some information about the xembed story:
http://alien.slackbook.org/blog/support-for-old-school-xembed-system-tray-icons-in-plasma-5/
5. I am missing more widgets or the import of kde 4 ones to plasma 5. Examples yawp !
I can confirm this. I hope they will be ported soon by the developers or some other person. In the end im missing those.
6. NO GO: for the "virtual desktops" it is not
If you are talking of "Activities" i can not reproduce your issue. Every Activitie can have seperate background.

Hope this info was a little helpful for you. Could it somehow be that you were looking for:

This here is not the official opensuse.org forum. And here are only very few users speaking english. You will get better feedback in https://forums.opensuse.org/ forums.

Greetings,

PS.: Gernerally i would say these are over all known issues around porting applications to Plasma5. You will find these on almost every distro going with Plasma5. And these are being worked on.
