[gelöst] Probleme unter OS 13.2 mit dem HP Laserjet 1020

An ein Lenovo Notebook (R500) hatte ich unter Opensuse 11.3 den HP Laserjet 1020 angeschlossen. Er lief recht gut, später auch auf demselben Notebook unter Opensuse 12.2. Beide Male arbeitete ich mit dem KDE Desktop und die Installation ging über Yast / Konfiguration von Druckern / hp-setup ausführen. Tauchten Verbindungsprobleme auf, wurde ich manchmal mehrmals aufgefordert, das von HP bereitgestellte Plugin zu installieren, nachdem es bereits installiert war. Doch im allgemeinen lief der Drucker. Später funktionierte er unter 12.2 mit Problemen: Die Druckfunktion wurde hier öfter ohne ersichtlichen Grund angehalten, so dass erst oft der umständliche Weg über Yast, unter "Druckerkonfiguration" die Druckfunktion immer wieder zu aktivieren, Abhilfe schaffte.

Nun ersetzte ich Opensuse 12.2 mit 13.2, 64 bit (KDE Desktop 4.14.4), auch in der Hoffnung, dadurch die Druckerprobleme zu lösen. Ich installierte hplip 3.4.16.6 und dann den Drucker über "hp-setup ausführen". Doch der Laserjet 1020 läuft nicht richtig. Ich würde ihn gerne ohne Unterbrechungen in Betrieb nehmen können:

Der Drucker ist mit dem Notebook zur Zeit nur über das USB-Kabel verbunden. Die Verbindung geht also nicht über einen USB-Hub, der manchmal zu Störungen führt. Schalte ich den Drucker ein, um mit ihm zu drucken, tut sich nichts, obwohl das Betriebssystem unter "Benachrichtigungen und Aufgaben" meldet, dass der Printjob gestartet und dann ausgeführt
wurde ("hplaserjet1020 Print job has completed..."). Dasselbe passiert auch, wenn ich mit dem bereits eingeschalteten Drucker das Betriebsystem hochfahren lasse. Nach dem Aus- und Einschalten des Druckers, dem anschließenden Herausziehen und Wieder-Einstöpseln des USB-Kabels gibt der Drucker dann ein akustisches Lebenszeichen von sich und der Ausdruck funktioniert wieder.

Vielleicht sind nicht (richtig) vergebene Berechtigungen in der Firewall die Ursache des Problems? Ich gab in "Yast - Drucker - Konfiguration von Druckern / Drucker freigeben" die Option entfernten Zugriff erlauben an, und im Firewall-Menü trug ich unter "externer Zone / erweitert / TCP" die 631 als Schnittstelle ein. Das brachte keine Lösung des Problems. Zwischenzeitlich habe ich den Druckeranschluss gelöscht und ihn dann erneut über das hp-setup eingerichtet; als dies nicht erfolgreich war, die Druckverbindung wieder gelöscht und den Drucker mit Yast anschließen lassen. Das Problem ließ sich damit allerdings nicht beheben.

Ich hatte in der Chip Linux 1/2015 gelesen, bei Druckproblemen unter Linux sei oft die PPD-Datei fehlerhaft. Tatsächlich finde ich derzeit auf dem System keine PPD-Datei für den Laserjet 1020, allerdings auch nicht einen entprechenden Download auf den Internetseiten von HP.

Nun ließ ich gestern im HP-Device Manager die Option "download firmware" ausführen. Der Drucker gab ein akustisches Zeichen von sich. Doch das Problem bleibt bestehen.

Im HP Device-Manger unter "Configure / Preferences / Commands (Advanced) / Configure what commands to run for decvice actions"
findet sich nur ein Eintrag unter "Scan": /usr/bin/xsane -V %SANE_URI%
Müsste hier nicht auch ein Eintrag unter "Print" stehen? "Print" ist dort angegraut, also nicht wählbar.

Was könnte ich noch unternehmem?

- Unter Yast "Druckertreiberpakete installieren oder entfernen" bestimmte Treiberpakete entfernen und andere hinzufügen?
- Weiterhin nach der für den Laserjet 1020 passenden PPD-Datei suchen?
- Neuinstallation des Druckers über den Cups-Server versuchen?
- In der Datei "/etc/udev/rules.d/56-hpmud.rules" etwas ändern?
- Eine andere hplip-Version installieren (etwa Version Version: 3.15.2 oder gar eine frühere stabile Version)?

Gegenüber 13.1 wurden bei 13.2 nicht nur Dateien zwischen den Paketen hplip und hplip-hpijs verschoben, sondern auch neue Verzeichnisse eingeführt. Früher befanden sich beide für Deinen 1020 vorhandenen ppd-Dateien in /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip, bei 13.2 sind sie in /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip-plugin zu finden.

Danke für die Hinweise! Offenbar hatte ich nicht richtig nach der PPD-Datei gesucht.

Es befindet sich eine in: /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip-plugin/hp-laserjet_1020.ppd.gz

und eine ohne die Endung "gz", die offenbar tatsächlich vom System gebraucht wird hier: /etc/cups/hplaserjet1020.ppd

Doch inwiefern ist eine Bearbeitung dieser Dateien oder ein Kopieren erforderlich?

Der besagte Artikel in der Chip Linux 1/2015 schlägte einfach vor: cp ihre_PPD.ppd /usr/share/cups/model

Dort gibt es auch eine zweite (hp-laserjet_1020-hpijs.ppd.gz). Die verwendete Datei wird ausgepackt nach /etc/cups/ kopiert und erhält dort den Namen, der für den Drucker vergeben wurde.

Das scheint wohl schlimmer geworden zu sein. Üblicherweise sollten hp-setup bzw. hp-plugin die Datei besorgen, aber ich habe keine diesbezüglichen praktischen Erfahrungen.

Am Samstag, 21.2., habe ich das Opensuse Drucker-Repository hinzugefügt

...und dann die aktuelle HPLIP Version, neben den Komponenten hpijs und hpsane installiert. Leider ließ sich der Drucker auch damit nicht ordnungsgemäß anschließen: Die alten Fehlermeldungen erschienen wieder.

Doch ich wollte es nicht weiter mit HPLIP versuchen. Also habe ich HPLIP deinstalliert. Mir scheint HPLIP mit seinen Komponenten eher etwas für Nutzer zu sein, die mehrere Geräte von HP oder All-in-one-HP-Geräte in Betrieb nehmen. Die vergangenen Jahre hatte ich HPLIP nur für den Laserjet verwendet und meine, keinen (nennenswerten) Vorteil dadurch gehabt zu haben. Deswegen habe ich dann auch die neue Version wieder deinstalliert.

Beim Installieren von neuer Software über Yast erscheinen diese deinstallierten Pakete aber nun wieder als Installations-Empfehlungen. Soll ich dies ignorieren? Etwa "Geschützt - nicht verändern" auswählen? Oder hat es doch einen Vorteil, hplip zu nutzen?

Danke für den Hinweis, da_sudel. Ich hatte mir auch gedacht, dass dies eine Option sein könnte. Vor einigen Jahren stieß ich bereits auf diese Seite, installierte den dort angebotenen Treiber aber nicht, da ich davon ausging, dass die Installation kompliziert ist und man in Bezug auf den Laserjet 1020 bei HPLIP besser aufgehoben ist. Nun habe ich es versucht. Die Installation von foo2zjs ging leichter als vermutet.

Im Folgenden möchte ich beschreiben, wie ich vorgegangen bin. Vielleicht kann dies nützlich sein für einige, die vor demselben Problem stehen. Auf der Webseite steht zwar auch eine ausführliche Anleitung, aber eben für alle möglichen Modelle und Linux-Varianten, daher weniger übersichtlich. Falls ich etwas vergessen habe oder fehlerhaft dargestellt habe, bitte darauf hinweisen.

Wer den HP Laserjet 1020 auf diesem Weg anschließen möchte, sollte nach Schritt 4 nicht vergessen, den USB-Stecker aus- und wieder ein zu stöpseln. Das
hatte ich beim ersten Male nicht beachtet und ebenso hatte ich die Anleitung ("Optional"?) missverstehend, unter 4. nur "make install-hotplug", aber nicht vorher "make install" gewählt und der Drucker war danach nicht ansprechbar. Ich habe dann die Treiber deinstalliert und noch einmal alles installiert.

Voraussetzung: Die Pakete "make" und "gcc" müssen installiert sein.

Falls noch nicht geschehen, etwa durch:

Nach der dort gegebenen Anleitung sollte man auch die Opensuse-Druckerquellen den Repositories hinzugefügt haben (siehe oben).

Das steht in der Anleitung, habe ich aber nicht gemacht, da ich schon vorher aktualisiert hatte:

In Yast2 habe ich unter "Drucker konfigurieren" die lokal abgespeicherte ~/foo2zjs/PPD/HP-Laserjet_1020.ppd als PPD-Datei ausgewählt. Wie es nun aussieht, ist der Drucker damit nur lokal installiert. Das ist ausreichend für einen Nutzer.

Was hätte ich für eine systemweite Installierung machen sollen? Die PPD-Datei nach /etc/cups/ppd/ kopieren?

Nach einigen Tagen Drucken hat bisher das Drucken gut geklappt. Bisher reagiert der Drucker recht schnell und zuverlässig auf die Druckbefehle. Die Ausdrucke sind auch zufriedenstellend. Nun erscheint auch die Option 1200x600 dpi (soweit ich mich erinnern kann, erschien sie vorher nicht).

Z. B. das, was Du ohnehin gemacht hast. Wo sich die Datei *.ppd(.gz) befindet, ist für die Einrichtung belanglos, wie ich schon schrieb, wird die verwendete Datei nach /etc/cups/ kopiert und erhält dort den Namen, der für den Drucker vergeben wurde.
