[Erledigt ]Leap 42.2, GT520 und WQHD

Hallo,

meine Hardware sieht wie folgt aus:
OS Leap 42.2 mit Plasma
Nvidia GT 520 mit Nouveau-Treiber
Dell U2515H WQHD, angeschlossen mittels HDMI (Kabel ist HiSpeed)

Bislang hatte ich einen BenQ FullHD-Monitor, der mit einer Auflösung von 1920*1080 hervorragend lief.

Heute habe ich den Dell bekommen und angeschlossen.
Leider gelingt es mir nicht, den Monitor in seiner nativen Auflösung von 2560x1440 zu betreiben.

In "Einstellungen -> Anzeige und Monitor" kann ich als maximale Auflösung nur 2048x1152 einstellen.
Das zeigt der Monitor im OSD auch als aktuelle Auflösung an.

In /var/log/ Xorg.0.log finde ich folgend Einträge (nur ein Ausschnitt):

Die erste Modeline dort ist die für die gewünschte Auflösung 2560x1440. Diese taucht aber weiter oben im Log bei "Probed Modlines" nicht auf.


Tja, und nun meine Frage: was muss ich tun, um meinen Monitor mit dieser Auflösung ansteuern zu können (die GT520 kann laut Datenblatt über HDMI 2560x1440 ausgeben)?

Hast du es einmal mit dem Nvidia Treiber versucht, der Nouveau und Plasma5 mögen sich oftmals nicht so.........

Ja, habe ich jetzt mal installiert.
Das Ergebnis bleibt aber gleich: max. einstellbare Auflösung 2048x1152.

Auch mit den Nvidia-Server-Settings lässt sich keine höhere Auflösung einstellen.

Nein, /etc/xorg.conf ist nicht vorhanden.

Es gibt einen Ordner /etc/xorg.conf.d.
Die u.a. darin enthaltenen Dateien 50-monitor.conf und 50-screen.conf beinhalten nur auskommentierte Zeilen.

Bei http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19629444 geht es zwar um eine andere Grafikkarte, aber die Sache scheint nicht einfach zu sein.

Wirklich weiterhelfen kann ich Dir nicht, aber ein paar Fragen scheinen für Dich klärungswürdig zu sein. Kann Dein Bildschirm 2560x1440x60.0? Kann die Grafikkarte das? Kann das HDMI-Kabel die notwendige Frequenz übertragen? Warum werden 241.5 MHz genannt, die einer Wiederholfrequenz von nur 47,4 Hz (statt 60 Hz) entsprechen?

das hatte ich eigentlich in meinem Beitrag heute von 12:40 Uhr beantwortet.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf ist nicht vorhanden.

Es gibt Dateien im Verzeichnis /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, die aber alle nur einen auskommentierten Inhalt haben.

Ergänzend sei gesagt, dass ich zwischenzeitlich den Nvidia-Treiber installiert habe. Aber am Ergebnis hat sich nix geändert.

Dein link enthält wenig hilfreiche Informationen. Es ist nicht erwähnt, bei welcher Wiederholfrequenz und für welchen Anschluß die Werte gelten. Wenn das Handbuch des Herstellers der Karte (nicht des verwendeten Chips) das nicht erläutert, wirst Du ihn fragen müssen. So nebenbei sei in diesem Zusammenhang erwähnt, daß bei meiner früheren ATI-Karte über DVI eine höhe Auflösung als über HDMI möglich war und bei meiner derzeitigen Intel-Karte die höchste Auflösung nur bei einer Wiederholfrequenz von 24 Hz erreicht wird.

Auch beim Kabel würde ich mich im Zweifelsfall nicht darauf verlassen, daß mit

Ich habe jetzt zur Sicherheit nochmal ein neues HDMI-Kabel angeschlossen.

Aber unter Leap 42.2 ist keine höhere Auflösung als 2048x1152 einstellbar.
Versuche ich mit den Nvidia-Xserver-Settings eine höhere Auflösung per Hand einzustellen, so kann ich zwar bei "ViewPortIn" die gewünschte WQHD-Auflösung von 2560x1440 eingeben.

Ebenso bei ViewPortOut.
Sobald ich aber das Eingabefeld von ViewPortOut verlasse, springt die Eingabe wieder auf 2048x1152x+0+0 zurück.

Interessanterweise funktioniert die Auflösung aber bei dem parallel installierten Windows 10.
Die Auflösung wird zwar bei den Settings zwar nicht angeboten, aber nachdem ich über "Anpassen" die Auflösung 2560x1440 eingetragen habe, schaltet Windows 10 ohne Probleme auf diese Auflösung um.

D.h. Grafikkarte, Monitor und Kabel können die WQHD-Auflösung verarbeiten. Aber unter Linux funktioniert dies nicht, da die manuelle Eintragung der Parameter nicht möglich ist (ViewPortOut).

Jetzt wissen wir wenigstens, daß es auch die Grafikkarte kann, wenngleich dem Treiber offensichtlich nachgeholfen werden muß. Bei einer Intel-Karte wäre mein nächster Schritt die Boot-Option video=2560x1440, da i915 standardmäßig mit modeset=-1 geladen wird, aber zu nouveau und nvidia kann ich nichts beitragen.

Langer Rede kurzer Sinn:

ich hatte keine Lust mehr weiter rumzupfriemeln.

Ich habe eine neue Grafikkarte geholt (Nvidia GTX750 ti), gleich per Displayport angeschlossen, PC hochgefahren und, voila, Leap ist ohne Eingriffe in die Konfiguration in voller Pracht gestartet (2560x1440 @60 Hz).

PS: obwohl die Grafikkarte wesentlich leistungsfähiger ist als die bisherige GT520, ist der Strombedarf kaum angestiegen.

Um das Thema abzuschließen will ich mal kurz zusammenfassen:

Bildschirmauflösungen > 1920x1080 scheinen unter Linux noch etwas tricky zu sein. Insbesondere bei Verwendung von HDMI als Schnittstelle scheint es Probleme zu geben.

Das mag an nicht für HiSpeed geeigneten HDMI-Kabeln oder HDMI-Buchsen liegen. Aber selbst wenn eine solche Kombination unter Windows funktioniert, heißt das noch lange nicht, dass dies auch unter Linux läuft.

Offensichtlich ist der Anschluss über DisplayPort am unproblematischsten.
Wer also beabsichtigt einen Bildschirm mit WQHD- oder 4k-Auflösung unter Linux zu betreiben, sollte vorsichtshalber davon ausgehen, diesen mittels DisplayPort anzuschließen. Ansonsten sind jede Menge "Überraschungen" möglich.
