Hypothetische Frage zu xine und Regionalcodes

Hallo,

Angenommen ich hätte eine legal gekaufte DVD mit Regionalcode 1.

Angenommen ich will nicht mit regionset den Regionalcode des Laufwerks ändern

Angenommen ich will auch nicht an der Firmware meines Laufwerks rumpfuschen.

Angenommen ich hätte gegoogelt und die im Eingangspost zum Thema "DVDs ansehen unter Linux" erwähnten
Links z.B. auf packman verwendet.

Angenommen die DVD kostet 60 EUR und ist ein Sammlerstück, das es mit Code 2 nicht gibt,
und es würde mich ärgern wenn ich das Geld ausgebe und es dann nicht funzt. :zensur:


Würden xine oder vlc diese DVD abspielen können oder würde der Regionalcode in der Firmware das unterbinden??


....Wenn nicht, baue ich eben ein zweites Laufwerk ein und setze das auf 1. :???:

Ich verkneife mir jetzt einen Kommentar betr. diesen Regional-Code Unsinn (und warum sich die Leute solches und ähnliches gefallen lassen).

Ich glaube Du hast grundsätzlich zwei Möglichkeiten:

-1- den Regional-Code des DVD-Players ändern (möglicherweise auf 0 setzen).

-2- Die DVD "remastern" und dabei den Regional-Code auf der DVD ändern ("all-regions").

Does VLC support DVDs from all regions?

This mostly depends on your DVD drive. Testing it is usually the quickest way to find out. The problem is that a lot of newer drives are RPC2 drives these days. Some of these drives don't allow raw access to the drive untill the drive firmware has done a regioncheck. VLC uses libdvdcss and it needs raw access to the DVD drive to crack the encryption key. So with those drives it is impossible to circumvent the region protection. (This goes for all software. You will need to flash your drives firmware, but sometimes there is no alternate firmware available for your drive). On other RPC2 drives that do allow raw access, it might take VLC a long time to crack the key. So just pop the disc in your drive and try it out, while you get a coffee. RPC1 drives should 'always' work regardless of the regioncode.

Circumvention

One can circumvent the region coding of a DVD by burning a copy that adds flags for all region codes, creating an all-region DVD. DVD backup software can do this, and can usually remove Macrovision, CSS, and disabled user operations (UOPs) as well.

danke für die Infos. Mit der Copyright und Regionalcode Problematik werden wir wohl leben müssen.
Ich erachte es persönlich als Unverschämtheit, daß es strafbar sein soll, sein legal erworbenes Eigentum so zu modifizieren, daß
es überhaupt nutzbar ist. :-x

Ich habe noch etwas gegoogelt und folgendes bei Wikipedia gefunden:

libXXXXXX ist eine Programmbibliothek zur Entschlüsselung von DVDs, welche mit CSS verschlüsselt wurden. Die Bibliothek, welche Teil des VideoLAN-Projektes ist, wird von einer Vielzahl von Opensource-DVD-Abspielprogrammen verwendet und gilt als sehr portabel. Unterstützt werden die Betriebssysteme GNU/Linux, BSD, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, Solaris und HP-UX. Die Software ist unter der GNU GPL lizenziert.
libXXXXXX generiert eine Liste möglicher Schlüssel. Sollte keiner der Schlüssel funktionieren (zum Beispiel wenn die DVD regionalcodiert ist), wird ein Brute-Force-Algorithmus angewandt. libXXXXXX ignoriert daher den Regionalcode einer DVD.

XXXXXX_METHOD: sets the authentication and decryption method that libXXXXXX will use to read scrambled discs. Can be one of title, key or disc.

key is the default method. libXXXXXX will use a set of calculated player keys to try and get the disc key. This can fail if the drive does not recognize any of the player keys.

disc is a fallback method when key has failed. Instead of using player keys, libdvdcss will crack the disc key using a brute force algorithm. This process is CPU intensive and requires 64 MB of memory to store temporary data.

title is the fallback when all other methods have failed. It does not rely on a key exchange with the DVD drive, but rather uses a crypto attack to guess the title key. On rare cases this may fail because there is not enough encrypted data on the disc to perform a statistical attack, but in the other hand it is the only way to decrypt a DVD stored on a hard disc, or a DVD with the wrong region on an RPC2 drive.

Somit werden wohl vlc, xine, k9copy oder vobcopy in der Lage sein die DVD auszulesen.
Danach werde ich versuchen mit pgcedit die .ifos auf region-free zu patchen.
Mit etwas Glück werde ich dann eine DVD brennen können, die in meinem DVD Heim-Gerät mit RPC2 abspielbar ist.

Ich bestelle also jetzt die DVDs. (übrigens: Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6)
